Morning Glory

Today I delivered Morning Glory, a recently completed commissioned work, to my Denver gallery. The process of commissioning a work of art for a private or public art collection is personal and exciting. I will describe the process here. After being contacted either directly through my gallery or e-introduction or by neighbors or past collectors of my work I arrange informal meetings with prospective clients. The actual timing is fluid and fluctuates with peoples schedules. These meetings can be in person or by Zoom. I have done both.

We meet and discuss the process of a commission and also talk about their preferences in colors, content, placement, dimensions, budget and materials. Usually during the second meeting I take notes and draw sketches while they frequently share more personal things like; their love of travel, their home, favorite music, musicians, writers, family stories and beloved pets photos. All this information is confidential. However, the better I can get to know someone I feel like I can develop their work to its most complete form. I take a commission very seriously. It is an honor and privilege to be commissioned.

I return to my studio where I order custom panels, begin to develop custom colors, content and lay the foundation for their painting. Depending on size a work can take three to four months before their final approval. In between, I keep in touch and let them know about the progress either just by phone calls, texts, or photos.

I hope you enjoy it. It was a total joy to paint. I am a passionate painter!
