Loveland Museum Exhibit Opens

Jul 19, 2021 | By: Patricia Aaron Contemporary Abstract Painter

Loveland Museum, Loveland, CO opens Light Affects | Encaustic Colorado   July 10 through September 25, 2021.

Loveland Museum Art Curator, Maureen Corey, writes in the accompanying exhibition forward, "Colorado artists have the great option of imbuing ever-mutable landscape values into their work. Light is an illuminating force that is equally exploited through the formal qualities of wax. Light affects, incongruously revealed by layers of wax, become the starting point, but also the touchstone for the creative process."

Three of the six works I have installed for this exhibition include new paintings which were created exclusively for this show. Marigold, Hideaway Cove, and Sweet Tea. Each of my paintings encapsulate the layers of light I am surrounded by in my studio. Inspired by connections I make with places and people during my travels in the US and overseas I translate them into abstract paintings.

Working with wax in my studio is a specialized process involving techniques and approaches which involve warm pigment beeswax, damar resin, inks, screen printing, digital photography, and printmaking

In the past year, I have been painting large format horizontal abstracted vistas of landscapes. I hope you will visit the Loveland Museum if you are passing through Colorado this summer/fall. You will see the breadth and depth of possibilities of painting, printing, and sculpting with beeswax.

Colorado artists include: Jane Guthridge, K Rhynus Cesark, and Susan Wasinger.
